New Lithium Iron Phosphate Battery and More-Efficient Solar Panels More Than Double Output for Reverse Osmosis Water Pumping and Purification.
Williamsport, MD – November 8, 2024 – Optimize Water Solutions announces the integration of new technologies into its WaterNowTM mobile solar-powered water purifier as part of the organization’s continuous product improvement process. Available in either Ultrafiltration (UF) or Reverse Osmosis (RO) models, depending on Customer need, these performance enhancements are primarily for the RO version. The integrated product improvements more than double the potable water output from 800 to 1,800 gallons-per-day (GPD).
“Energy storage technologies have steadily improved over the past decade," said Optimize Water Solutions Chief Technology & Operations Officer Michael Ingles. “We continually monitor various battery chemistries to offer the best combination of capacity, number of life cycles, power, safety, and scale. With that in mind, for our latest model we made the change to a Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) battery. The change in performance is significant, and one our Customers will appreciate.”
With this upgrade, Optimize Water Solutions effectively doubled the energy storage capacity of its units at one-third the weight of its former Sealed Lead Acid (SLA) battery bank. Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries are very stable and contain no oxygen, so they are less likely to burn than similar nickel-cobalt chemistries. Because there is no oxygen, they don’t heat up nearly as much and they are more fire-resistant. They can also last for thousands of charge cycles and withstand the abuse of faster charging. The battery life cycle improved eight-fold, enabling a ten-fold battery lifespan increase, depending on usage.
System improvements aren’t limited to battery chemistry. This upgrade integrates improvements across virtually every major component in a solution that already leads the industry.
"We’ve been involved in the solar manufacturing, development and finance business since the mid 1990s," said Optimize Water Solutions CEO Len Jornlin. “So, we’ve seen vast solar-module efficiency improvements. The technology just continues to get better. For this iteration, we’ve incorporated high efficiency, proven modules with 21% efficiency, while also increasing our solar ‘footprint’ from 6’ x 9’ to 7’ x 11’. This has enabled us to increase our solar production capacity by 40%, from 960 to 1,620 Watts.”
The unit’s new inverter provides even more upside. Inverters convert Direct Current (DC) electricity, which is what the solar modules generate, to Alternating Current (AC) electricity, to power the system’s (also) new, energy-efficient booster pump. The new Inverter delivers a seven-fold capacity increase, from 1,000 to 7,000 Watts. The new inverter delivers maximum efficiency, higher power output, better switching performance, and improved electromagnetic compatibility. It also enables access to 110VAC and 220VAC power.
Optimize Water Solutions’ mobile solar-powered water purification solutions are ideal for storm or grid-related emergencies as well as water quality issues (including PFAS). These rugged, self-contained, stand-alone systems are enclosed in a custom, single-axle trailer and can have you up-and-running in 15 minutes, delivering 1,800 gallons of potable water per-day via Reverse Osmosis (7,500 GPD via Ultrafiltration). These simple, affordable, and robust systems are a proven outcome of three decades experience innovating and executing at-scale on five continents. This expertise enables Optimize to deliver mobile and/or large footprint, modular community-based solutions quickly in a crisis or for the long-term anywhere in the US or around the globe.
